Injuries disrupt Fergie's plans
06 Mar 2007 - 14:36:22
Manchester United will definitely be without Louis Saha, Darren Fletcher and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the Champions League last 16 second leg clash with Lille at Old Trafford, while Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra are both doubtful.
Saha has gone for a scan after picking up a knock while Evra was forced to miss training on Tuesday morning.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Fletcher's ankle injury is worse than was initially thought. The midfielder missed the 1-0 victory at Liverpool but was expected to return to action within two weeks.
However, a scan has shown that Fletcher has damaged his ankle ligaments and may not return to action again this season.
"Darren went for a scan earlier this week," Ferguson revealed on the club's official website.
"The news wasn't good. He'll be out for two months. It's a blow for the lad."
Solskjaer is not expected to return to action for another three weeks after being forced to have a minor knee operation.
United already have one foot in the quarter-finals of the competition they last won in 1999 after winning the first leg in Lens 1-0.
