Hernandez is United's new head boy
Published : 07 Dec 2010 10:05:52
Javier Hernandez is United's new head boy after being likened by Sir Alex Ferguson to one of the manager's favourite all-time players the legendary Denis Law. Hernandez has enjoyed a sparkling debut campaign for the Reds, netting seven goals in 18 appearances, including one on his debut. And now Fergie has heaped the greatest compliment possible on the 21-year-old by saying his heading is just like the player revered by the Stretford End as the King. Sir Alex has in the past admitted fellow Scot Law is his own idol, so the fact he's now suggesting the youngster is in the same class shows just how impressed the boss has been since he arrived at Old Trafford in the summer for £7m. The Mexican scored four times in as many appearances during an excellent run in October, including late winners against Stoke and Wolves. It was Hernandez's first against Stoke that really caught the eye, though, as he rose in the penalty area, then delivered a back header with enough force to power it past Thomas Sorensen. For such a physically slight individual, it was an amazing effort one that Ferguson feels deserves comparison with the best exponents. He has got the spring but he also has the ability to just hang there for a second or two, just like Denis Law and Ian St John. It can upset defenders. A virtual unknown when United confirmed his capture from Chivas in the final weeks of last season, Hernandez has settled in remarkably well. I am really enjoying it, he said, ahead of United's Champions League clash with Valencia at Old Trafford tonight. I am a lucky person to be here because this is a great opportunity. Despite the pressures of playing for a big club with such a huge stature, United is very much like a big family. That atmosphere has allowed me to improve and to grow as a person and a player. Will Hernandez go on to be a first-team regular for United? Have your say.
