Giggs to end Wales days
30 May 2007 - 09:13:52
Wales wing wizard Ryan Giggs will announce his retirement from international football on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Manchester United great has won 63 caps to date and will call time after Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against the Czech Republic at the Millennium Stadium.
Giggs' Wales career started way back in October 1991 against West Germany, when he became his country's youngest-ever international at the time.
An FA of Wales source told PA: "Maybe Ryan has come to accept that the chances of qualification for Euro 2008 are all but gone.
"It is a great shame, he has been an outstanding servant to Welsh football and since being made captain under John Toshack, he has been a major influence on the young players."
Giggs has netted 12 goals for his country, but has been unable to help them qualify for the finals of either the European Championships or the World Cup during his career.
