Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs hopes the Red Devils can finally land Owen Hargreaves in the January transfer window.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was desperate to sign the England international in the summer but was thwarted by Bayern Munich's refusal to sell their industrious midfielder.
Hargreaves pleaded with the Bundesliga champions to allow him to move to Old Trafford at the beginning of the season and earlier in the week reiterated his desire to play in England.
Bayern remain adamant that the 25-year-old - currently sidelined after breaking his leg in September - will not be leaving in the New Year but Giggs is hopeful United can complete the deal.
He told The Sun: "He is a player who would improve us. You want strength in depth and we would be really strong with him.
"Hargreaves is a quality player and showed that in the summer (during the World Cup)."
