Fortune favours Ferguson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels his side are enjoying the luck needed to be champions, following their crucial 1-0 victory at deadly rivals Liverpool.

A John O'Shea strike in injury time at Anfield kept the Red Devils nine points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table, with Ferguson accepting that his side were fortunate to take all three points

He said: "If you are looking for the luck of champions, then we have certainly had that in the last two matches.

"Liverpool will feel very unlucky and they deserve to. It was a fantastic result. We had a lot of narrow escapes and Liverpool upset our rhythm.

"It is a massive result for us. We broke away late on against Fulham and scored and now we've done it here.

"We've had that bit of luck in the last two weeks, but you need luck if you are to win titles."

The only downside for United came with Wayne Rooney limping off with a knee injury, with the England striker facing a scan to diagnose the seriousness of the problem.
