Sir Alex Ferguson was beaming after watching his Manchester United side open their campaign with a 5-1 rout of Fulham at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils flew into a four-goal lead within 19 minutes thanks to an own goal and strikes from Louis Saha, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Rooney netting his second to complete the rout in the second half.
Ferguson was delighted with the performance and the link-up between Rooney and Ronaldo, following their clash at this summer's World Cup finals.
He said: "People always look for scapegoats, but we have a great spirit here and we will not let that be affected by what people say outside the club.
"There is no problem between Cristiano and Wayne. They are great friends and linked really well together.
"The Fulham fans did boo Cristiano a bit at the start, but in the end even they were acknowledging what a great footballer the boy is."
Rooney himself added: "People say things who don't know the pair of us and we let our football do the talking.
"It was a good start for us, getting four goals in the first half an hour was good for us because we could afford to relax."
