Fletcher ready for Scots

Darren Fletcher insists he is in perfect shape for Scotland's crucial World Cup qualifier with Norway despite rejecting George Burley's plea to rest this weekend. Burley was eager for the key midfielder to sit out Sunday's Community Shield clash as Manchester United took on Chelsea at Wembley. But Fletcher played for the opening 75 minutes as the Red Devils were eventually defeated on penalties as he did not want to jeopardise his chances of regular action under Sir Alex Ferguson. Scotland travel to Oslo for Wednesday's Group Nine encounter, where Burley is expected to hand Fletcher the captain's armband. The midfielder is standing by his decision to go against his international manager's wishes and claims he is not putting club before country. CompetitionHe told the Daily Record: "I'm feeling good. The Scotland manager obviously asked me about not playing but I want to play as many games as I can. "I've got to try to win a place in the United team and there is a lot of competition around the squad. "I don't want to be skipping United games but I was always going to be available for Scotland. That was always going to be the case. "There was never any doubt. But I've also always got to concentrate on my club career and they both go hand in hand."
