Five reasons why Michael Laudrup should succeed Sir Alex Ferguson

Michael Laudrup is the best choice for taking over the reins from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. Here’s why:

1. The former Danish super-star is a cut above the rest of the young managers in European football. Swansea City has reaped rich dividends ever since he took charge of them. Like Guardiola, his style is understated but dynamic in nature. With a relatively weak bunch of players as opposed to top teams like the Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea, he has given these clubs a run for their money. Given the opportunity of managing the Van Persies and the Rooneys his stock can only rise.

2. The former Barca and Real Madrid great has a wealth of experience of European football as a player as well as a manager. With Manchester United regularly making the Champions League last 16, he would be a fitting boss to take them that extra mile in the European club football arena and to Champions League glory.

3. Great players can be exceptional managers: and no one can endorse this better than Laudrup who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have played the game of football. Galvanizing a team of already highly talented individuals such as the players at Old Trafford should not be a difficult task for Laudrup.

4. Possession football : Anyone watching the Swans this season will have noted that they play a game of slick passing and are always hungry to get the ball back. This is precisely what Manchester United learnt in their most recent game against the Swans at the Liberty Stadium. This style of play is an acquired talent from Laudrup’s days with Barcelona. While Manchester United already has a tough midfield with Carrick and Fletcher, further reinforcement of possession football would make the Old Trafford team unbeatable.

5. Solid defence: Swansea City has shown a very deep defence with even their strikers pitching in whenever required. The United backline has not performed up to their potential this season and a defensive strengthening is very much the requirement of the moment. Laudrup could usher in the golden era of defenders for Old Trafford and could reduce their conceding goals, which is a crucial and vital aspect of Premier League football.

Michael Laudrup throughout his playing years was known for his exceptional talent and die-hard dedication. It is expected that he would bring the same talent and dedication to the table when and if he ever takes over the reins from Sir Alex.

It’s up to the big bosses in United to poach him from Swansea once the present manager calls it a day.

Old Trafford regulars would then also be able to appreciate the old saying in Spain from the Dane’s Spanish football days, now with a slight English twist “Manchester United- Made in Laudrup”.
