Ferguson voices Rio concerns
27 Oct 2009 - 11:06:54
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that Rio Ferdinand is struggling to find his best form.
A series of niggling injuries appear to have dulled the 30-year-old England international's edge and he has produced a series of high-profile mistakes in the opening two months of the season.
The former West Ham and Leeds United star was blamed for one of Craig Bellamy's goals in last month's Manchester derby, while his initial mistake led to England goalkeeper Robert Green conceding a penalty and being sent off in the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.
On Sunday, Spain international Fernando Torres brushed aside Ferdinand's challenge before going on to score the opening goal in Liverpool's 2-0 victory against United.
Ferguson told The Sun: "He has to get good form. That's an important issue for the coach to pick the right team.
"In defence you've maybe got more options than other positions. He'll need to get his form right."
