Ferguson says arise Sir Giggsy!

Sir Alex Ferguson has called for Ryan Giggs to be knighted. The United boss believes the most decorated player in English football deserves to be awarded another honour to add to his vast collection. Giggs has won 11 Premier League titles and two European Cups with the Reds, as well as collecting the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award and was awarded an OBE in 2007. But in the foreword to Giggs' new autobiography My Life, My Story' Fergie, insists he deserves more. His reputation is unassailable, he is an idol to millions around the globe and he has accumulated enough assorted silverware to fill a phalanx of trophy cabinets, said Ferguson. But there is one accolade which has yet to materialise, although I trust it is only a matter of time. How I would love to adorn my team sheet with the words Sir Ryan Giggs' Any why not? After all, it might be said that Clive Woodward became a knight of the realm essentially for winning three games at the 2003 World Cup. I'm certain most of England would say his honour was richly merited, and I wouldn't argue with that. But after making more than 800 appearances for Manchester United, many of them in extremely high-pressure situations, doesn't Ryan deserve it too? Unquestionably he does, as much as any sporting figure we have known on these islands. Should Giggs be knighted? Have your say.
