Ferguson relief at late show
20 Jan 2008 - 12:54:59
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he was relieved to take three points from Reading after securing a late 2-0 victory at the Madejski Stadium.
Goals from Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo inside the final 13 minutes kept the Red Devils at the top of the league table on goal difference over Arsenal, but Ferguson feared a draw was on the cards after a strong defensive display from the Royals.
"By the end we were quite happy to get through it," he revealed.
"Considering the number of opportunities we had, maybe our decision-making in the final third of the field wasn't at its best.
"We kept making chances, but you do start to worry when the game goes on and you haven't scored.
"But credit to Reading, they keep going at you all the time and I think that's an important result for us.
"It really needed an early goal, which could have led to a lot of goals in that game.
"We got the goal at the right time and managed to hold on to get through."
