Ferguson goes cool on Costa

Reports suggest Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has cooled his interest in Gremio's highly-rated teenager Douglas Costa. A story in the News Of The World suggests Ferguson has grown wary of taking his interest in the 18-year-old further because of fears surrounding Costa's private life. Costa was arrested by Brazilian police earlier this week for driving without a valid license. It has also been suggested that the teenager has recently been turning up late for training and leading a party lifestyle. Last month it was reported that cash-strapped Gremio had placed a £21million price tag on Costa's head. However, United were only willing to offer £7million for the player, plus a series of success-related add-ons if the player lived up to his undoubted promise. Manchester City have also been linked with Costa, who has already represented his country at under-20 level. Ferguson has already bought Luis Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen and Gabriel Obertan this summer.
