Ferguson faces blast probe
17 Sep 2008 - 14:00:41
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could be in trouble with the Football Association amid reports that they are to investigate his outburst aimed at referees' chief Keith Hackett.
Ferguson fired an angry blast at Hackett after learning that Chelsea captain John Terry would be free to face his side on Sunday after successfully appealing a red card shown against Manchester City last weekend.
Terry had been facing a three-match ban after referee Mark Halsey judged his foul on City striker Jo was "serious foul play".
However, he was cleared by the FA's independent regulatory commission after they rescinded the red card on Tuesday.
Ferguson was unhappy with the ruling and suggested that Hackett, the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, was behind the decision.
A spokesperson for the PGMO denied the accusation on Wednesday, claiming "all matters of discipline are an issue for the FA,", but not before Ferguson had risked the wrath of the FA with an outburst aimed at Hackett.
He said: "I understand Hackett told ref Mark Halsey to rescind the card and he wouldn't.
"I do not understand how this has happened. If it had been a Manchester United player, Hackett would not have done this."
