Ferguson denies Ronaldo row
11 May 2009 - 07:26:12
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed suggestions of a problem with Cristiano Ronaldo after he reacted angrily to being subbed in the 2-0 derby win over Manchester City.
The 24-year-old had earlier opened the scoring for United in the derby, as the Red Devils moved three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table.
Ronaldo stood preening by the touchline before throwing a training top away and then sitting shaking his head for several minutes.
However, Ferguson commented: "It is great that he wanted to play on. It is fabulous, but I have to look at the big picture.
"He produced an incredible performance against Arsenal on Tuesday. He ran his socks off. Now I have Wednesday and Saturday to look after. There is no problem."
Meanwhile, Ferguson was full of praise for his side, who rounded off a superb week with another crucial victory.
He added: "I have to congratulate my lads. We've had a great week, but a hard week with the programme we've had.
"We didn't play well today. Derby games can be that way, they can be horrible. I think we got a horrible game today.
"City didn't look like scoring. They had one chance from Robinho in the second half, but apart from that there weren't really any chances.
"Our second goal just killed the game. We settled for 2-0 and the lads made sure that we didn't lose the game."
