Ferguson calms injury fears
24 Feb 2008 - 13:21:59
Sir Alex Ferguson expects both Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic to be fit for Manchester United's next match despite substituting both defenders during the 5-1 rout of Newcastle United.
Left-back Evra was replaced at half-time at St James' Park on Saturday evening, while Vidic limped off during the second half after taking a blow on the shin from Michael Owen.
However, Ferguson has allayed fears over their fitness by suggesting they will both be fit to face Fulham in the Premier League next Saturday.
"Patrice wasn't feeling very well. He was sick at half-time so we took him off," he revealed.
"Then Vida came off. I think he's okay hopefully it's just a calf strain."
Meanwhile, Ferguson was full of praise for his side's attacking display against the Magpies.
Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo both helped themselves to braces, while Louis Saha got on the scoresheet with a 90th minute fifth goal.
"It was a good performance. We could have scored a few goals, we made chances, but the important thing is that they're looking really fresh," he added.
"The match was decided by the ability of our front players, they were all absolutely fantastic.
"Obviously with Ronaldo and Rooney scoring two goals apiece, they're going to get all the headlines, but the movement of Carlos Tevez and the penetration of Nani contributed to that."
