Ferguson: Rooney fit for final

Sir Alex Ferguson has allayed fears that Wayne Rooney will miss Manchester United's Champions League Final with Chelsea through injury.

The England striker has missed the last two games with a hip injury picked up against Blackburn Rovers in April.

Several reports claimed Rooney required surgery and would miss the showdown with Chelsea in Moscow on May 21.

But Ferguson has rubbished suggestions he requires an operation and expects Rooney to be fully fit for the trip to Russia.

"With Wayne it is just that knock in the hip that he got against Blackburn," he told Sky Sports before Saturday's lunchtime meeting with West Ham.

"It was amazing really because (Ryan) Nelsen came across and whacked him in the hip and he got a foul against him.

"When you get that knock, the bruising was there and it has never cleared up.

"Last Saturday against Chelsea he was struggling badly and we can't get rid of the bruised blood.

"It is trapped between the muscle and the hip joint so it is very painful, but once we clear that up the pain will go.

"He will be fit for the final - no question about that. The big rush is now just to get him fit for next Saturday (against Wigan)."

Meanwhile, Ferguson also revealed that he expects defender Nemanja Vidic - who suffered concussion against Chelsea - to be fit for next weekend.
