Ferguson - Football is emotional

Sir Alex Ferguson is remaining tight-lipped over the incidents that marred Chelsea's game with Barcelona in midweek but admits that the raw emotions in football often lead to people acting in a manner they later regret. The scenes that followed Chelsea's last gasp elimination from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night have been widely criticised within football circles; with the berating of match referee Tom Henning Ovrebo adjudged to have gone much too far. Didier Drogba, whose foul-mouthed television tirade has garnered plenty of column inches, and Michael Ballack were at the centre of the unsavoury scenes that are to be investigated by Uefa. Ferguson, though, feels that games of such magnitude and intensity have long-since led to players and managers getting carried away with their emotions. "Football creates emotions," reflected Ferguson. "It is an emotional game and we have seen that time and time again. "After it, when you have cooled down you think 'I am sorry I did that'. It happens."
