Sir Alex Ferguson was unhappy with the performance of Manchester United after they required a debut goal from Kieran Lee deep into extra time to overcome Crewe in the Carling Cup.
The Red Devils boss named a strong line-up for the third round clash at Gresty Road, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Alan Smith, Mikael Silvestre and Gabriel Heinze.
But despite United including seven full internationals, they were taken all the way by the League One club before Lee struck just 60 seconds from time.
"I am really disappointed by the performance," said the United boss.
"We said before the game that Crewe would battle and make it a real cup tie but we just stood off them and allowed them to play.
"There was a careless attitude throughout the whole team and overall I thought Crewe were the better side."
