Fergie ready to repel Real
02 Nov 2008 - 12:02:58
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Real Madrid that he intends to fight off their expected fresh wave of interest in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ferguson believes the Spanish club will once again make overtures to sign the Portugal winger either when the transfer window reopens in January or next summer.
But the veteran Scot insists he will prevent an 'arrogant' Real Madrid and their outspoken president Ramon Calderon from securing their dream transfer target.
Ronaldo was linked with a move to Spain throughout last summer after suggesting he was keen to join the La Liga champions.
However, the 23-year-old winger was ultimately persuaded to stay at Old Trafford by a determined Ferguson.
"I don't care two monkeys about our relationship with Real Madrid to be honest with you," he stated.
"We have the player we want. They don't have the player they would like. All that is going on regarding (Ramon) Calderon is to do with the fact that they couldn't get Cristiano.
"Calderon promised so much that he would get the lad. Some of his comments are ridiculous. There is a complete arrogance about it all.
"There was no question of Ronaldo leaving anyway, absolutely no question.
"It's possible that these are the first shots of another attempt to get him. They do it all the time. We're ready.
"We have enough ammunition ready. I'm only using one gun at the moment. I'll get the Gatling gun out in January!"
