Fergie raves about Macheda
12 Apr 2009 - 10:58:51
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson paid tribute to super sub Federico Macheda after the Italian teenager scored a crucial late winner in the 2-1 victory at Sunderland.
The 17-year-old, who also struck at the death last weekend in the 3-2 win at home to Aston Villa, ensured that United remained at the top of the Premier League table.
Ferguson said after a crucial three points: "He has got something special about him, the boy. I haven't seen (replays of) the goal, but one of the players said he actually tried it.
"He side-footed it as it came to him. It's that quick-thinking that goalscorers have got. He has just got that instinct.
"He knows the role we want him to play. We want him to penetrate in behind them. He has got good movement, he has got quickness in his movement and it showed when he came on.
"He wasn't fazed by anything. Right away he got involved in the game and he had a good 20 minutes for us.
"When they got the equaliser, maybe a little bit against the run of play, nonetheless it puts you under pressure to make decisions about your changes.
"Fortunately, I made the right one."
