Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that none of the Manchester United players taking part in the World Cup will be involved in domestic action at the start of the new season.
Ferguson is keen to avoid problems with late-season fatigue so will give the likes of England duo Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, Portugal's Nani, Serbia defender Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra of France and Ji-Sung Park of Korea Republic a break following the tournament in South Africa.
United's pre-season tour to North America begins with a game against Celtic in Toronto four days after the World Cup final.
However, the players involved in the finals will not return to pre-season training until the second week in August.
"The World Cup will be draining for all the players involved," Ferguson said.
"It is the biggest tournament of their lives and we will be giving all of the players who are involved a 28-day rest after the last game.
"We will begin the season without them. That is the plan."
