Fergie plans new signings
17 Apr 2007 - 13:47:41
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to add 'a couple' of new players to his Old Trafford squad in the summer.
The Red Devils are still battling on three fronts and could conceivably end the season with the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League trophies all in their possession.
But whatever the outcome of the current campaign, Ferguson has vowed to strengthen his squad during the off-season.
Last summer the United chief missed out on the capture of Owen Hargreaves and Ferguson is widely predicted to renew his efforts to land the Bayern Munich and England midfielder in the summer.
United have also been rumoured to be planning an £8million raid on Blackburn Rovers to sign winger Morten Gamst Pedersen from their local rivals.
Southampton's £10million-rated Wales international full-back Gareth Bale has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
"I would hope to add a couple of players in the summer who will improve us," said Ferguson.
"We are talking about that now. There won't be sweeping changes, maybe just one or two coming in who would have the talent to make a difference."
Meanwhile, Ferguson's number two Carlos Queiroz has agreed a new one-year rolling contract.
The former Real Madrid coach's three-year deal was due to expire in the summer, but Queiroz has now agreed new terms on a 12-month contract.
