    Fergie looks to the future

    16 May 2009 - 16:00:54

Sir Alex Ferguson immediately turned his attention towards Manchester United becoming the most successful team in English football history after wrapping up the 11th Premier League title of his career.

Saturday's goalless draw with Arsenal saw the Red Devils crowned champions for the 18th time in their history.

The Old Trafford club are now level on title wins with bitter rivals Liverpool and veteran boss Ferguson now wants to overtake the Merseyside club.

With the dust yet to settle on United's 2008/09 triumph, he said: "It'll make it more special when we are in front of them.

"Next year we are going for it again."

Speaking about drawing level with Liverpool and his 23 years at the helm of the club, he added: "That was the target because they were the greatest side in the land.

"But I never thought we could get 11 titles. Never in a million years."

Meanwhile, Ferguson admitted his side had crawled over the finishing line after a nervy display against the Gunners.

"It was the longest 90 minutes in history," he added.

"There was only one save in the match - it was a cautious match."

Ferguson also pledged to continue at the helm of the Old Trafford club for as long as his health allows.

"I'm not contemplating it (retirement)," claimed the 67 year-old Scot.

"I'll carry on. I'm going to stay as a manager and my health will tell me when to quit."
