Fergie hopes Tevez stays put
25 Apr 2009 - 10:51:30
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains confident that striker Carlos Tevez will opt to remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season.
The 25-year-old Argentina international is coming to the end of a two-year loan stint with the Red Devils and recently hinted that he may opt to move on.
However, Ferguson told reporters: "I think he genuinely wants to stay here. That is something we are trying to work towards, I have told him that repeatedly.
"Maybe at the end of the season, if he has won something or achieved something, he will look at the overall picture and realise he has made a contribution. I think he will stay, I hope he does.
"Carlos has played more minutes that Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov this season. He has played in quite a few big games.
"I don't want him to be unhappy, that's for sure, because he is an important player for us.
"The difficulty is when you have the options I have got, it creates problems.
"All the good players want to play in every game, but you can't do that in this league, it is impossible."
Tevez has scored 32 goals in 92 appearances for United to date, having made his name in England during a controversial spell with West Ham United.
