Fergie hints at major changes
19 May 2009 - 10:49:17
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped a strong hint that he will name weakened line-up for Sunday's clash with Hull City.
Hull could be relegated on the final day of the season should they lose at home to the recently-crowned champions and Newcastle United win at Aston Villa.
However, the Tigers' task could be made easier as United are not expected to be at full-strength side as they will have half an eye on the Champions League Final against Barcelona.
Fellow relegation rivals Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are unlikely to be happy should Ferguson rest a number of key players, but the United boss seems certain to do so.
He said: "This is the best squad I have ever had. I could have picked two teams (against Arsenal last weekend) and I will be picking a team next Sunday which will reflect that.
"I have a fantastic squad of about 28 or 29 players to choose from with the introduction of (Federico) Macheda, (Danny) Welbeck, (Rodrigo) Possebon and the Da Silva twins.
"I know they're young but they're very good players.
"I'm as confident for the final as I possibly can because we've won the league so we'll be going to Rome with a fresh team."
