Fergie has no Beckham regrets
02 Feb 2010 - 12:38:40
Sir Alex Ferguson has urged his Manchester United players to ignore the 'circus' surrounding David Beckham's return to face his former club when they take on AC Milan Champions League later this month.
United head to Italy to face Milan and potentially their former midfield star for the first leg of a last 16 tie at the San Siro on February 16.
Beckham, who left United bound for Real Madrid in a £25million deal in 2003, will then return to Old Trafford in the second leg on march 10.
The 34-year-old midfielder has recently rejoined Milan on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.
"No regrets. We move on," Ferguson told Inside United magazine when asked about his decision to sell Beckham.
"The only difference with David's return to Manchester United compared with other players is that there will be a big media circus surrounding him when Milan arrive.
"He's such a high-profile celebrity - not just a high-profile footballer - and we haven't really seen anybody else return to the club in that situation.
"Our job is to concentrate on the football match and let the David Beckham media circus carry on - we know we're not going to stop it anyway."
