Fergie hails United composure
13 Sep 2009 - 10:50:07
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his side's composure after they came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 on Saturday evening.
United found themselves a goal down inside the first minute after Jermain Defoe stunned the visitors.
Ryan Giggs equalised with a free-kick before a clinical strike from Anderson - his first for the Red Devils in over 70 appearances - secured a half-time lead for the champions.
Paul Scholes was sent off in the second half for two bookable offences but Wayne Rooney killed off the game with a well-taken third goal 12 minutes from full-time.
"It was always going to be hard game," said Ferguson. "Tottenham are in great form and they got off to a fantastic start in the first minutes of the game.
"It was a marvellous finish from Defoe but it was early in the game, still 90 minutes to play. We had to gather our game and show composure."
However, Ferguson was unhappy with Scholes' dismissal after the midfielder was shown a yellow card for a foul on Tom Huddlestone.
"It was terrible sending off, I think the referee got it wrong," he added. "I thought it was a bad sending off.
"I've looked at the video twice and I don't see any sending off. I think he has been sent off because his name is Paul Scholes."
