Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the maturity of his side after they made it three wins from three in this year's Champions League.
Paul Scholes, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson scored the goals as United took FC Copenhagen apart at Old Trafford and one more win should virtually assure the Red Devils qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.
"We had the opportunity in the first half to kill the game off but didn't take our chances," said the United manager.
Referring to the fact that United were dumped out at the group stage last season, he added: "I think they've proved themselves now.
"They've grown up and don't want any more embarrassment and are playing good football into the bargain."
Meanwhile, Ferguson praised Wayne Rooney after the 20-year-old was handed the captain's armband when Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand suffered injuries in the pre-match warm-up.
He continued: "It is always difficult to pick a captain and maybe we overlooked Edwin Van der Sar because I was looking for an outfield player.
"But Wayne was fantastic and rose to the occasion."
