    Fergie hails marvellous Rooney

    17 Feb 2010 - 08:52:59

Sir Alex Ferguson once again praised in-form Wayne Rooney whose two goals helped Manchester United come from behind to beat AC Milan 3-2 in the San Siro in an entertaining Champions League last-16 second leg clash on Tuesday.

After Ronaldinho had fired the Rossoneri into an early lead, Paul Scholes brought United level before Rooney's brace put the visitors in control.

Clarence Seedorf pulled a late goal back for the Serie A side but it was Rooney that earned all the plaudits after the match.

Ferguson said of the 24-year-old, who has now found the net 25 times already this term: "Wayne's second-half performance carried on the form he's been showing recently.

"He's in absolutely devastating form. They just couldn't handle him in the second half. I thought he was marvellous.

"There has been an improvement in his game over the last two months Confidence has a lot to do with that but it's also his ability as a player.

"As I've said about him on a number of occasions what he has to do is improve his goal scoring. That's what he's doing now.

"When you look at the way he's performing at the moment he must be regarded amongst those players at the highest level.

"It was a bad start and it gave them encouragement. It was a bad period for us. We could have been two or three goals down. We were desperate to hang on and thankfully we got ourselves back into the game."
