Fergie full of Giggs praise
27 Sep 2009 - 10:43:58
Sir Alex Ferguson praised the influence of Ryan Giggs after he inspired Manchester United to a 2-0 win over Stoke City.
United had been unable to unlock a well-organised Potters defence until the veteran midfielder came on for Nani in the 55th minute of the Britannia Stadium clash.
Both Dimitar Berbatov and John O'Shea then scored from Giggs assists to leave Ferguson full of praise for the reigning PFA Player of the Year.
He told MUTV: "He's important, he made the goals. I felt his intelligence would give them a bit of bother on that side of the pitch.
"I think Nani did his job quite well. He kept penetrating and keeping them pinned back, but Ryan brings you something else.
"He's got the intelligence take up good positions and for the first goal he made a lovely run in behind them to get the pass from Darren Fletcher and roll it along for Berbatov to score."
Speaking about Giggs' free-kick which set-up O'Shea for the second, he added: "It was a nice free-kick from Ryan.
"You're always looking for that second goal to kill the game - the sooner it comes the better.
"I felt we were a much bigger threat in the second half, particularly after we scored."
