Fergie expects triple boost
Published: 10 Apr 2009 - 13:58:14
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Manchester United's defensive injury woes could be behind them. The United boss revealed that Rio Ferdinand, Rafael Da Silva and Wes Brown should all be fit within two weeks. Ferdinand is set to be the first to return having picked up a groin injury for England against Ukraine at the start of the month. The 30-year-old has already been ruled out of Saturday's trip to Sunderland but Ferguson is optimistic he could return for the crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg in Porto in midweek. Brazilian right-back Rafael, out since January with an ankle injury, is already back in training while Wes Brown is expected to follow suit next week after a foot problem has kept him sidelined for over two months. "Rafael started training this week," Ferguson said. "He needs a few more days training but I would imagine he could be available for next weekend. "Wes is not too far away either and will start football training next week." Injury boostWith Jonny Evans out of the clash at the Stadium of Light after injuring his groin against Porto the timing of the trio's comebacks could not have been better. "Without question, getting these lads back would be a major boost for us," the Scot added. Meanwhile, despite the latest financial statement from the club's parent company revealing debts of almost £650million, Ferguson insists he cannot complain with the Glazer family's running of the club. "Their support has never changed," he highlighted. "I do not know what these figures tell you. There has always been debt since Malcolm Glazer took over the club. Most buyouts are like that. "But there is no change as far as I am concerned."
