Fergie expects quiet summer
09 May 2009 - 11:12:36
Sir Alex Ferguson is predicting a quiet summer in the transfer market for Manchester United.
The Red Devils remain on course for another Premier League and Champions League double this season and the veteran boss does not believe he needs to significantly add to the squad he already has at his disposal.
"We won't be going for a lot of players ourselves this summer, that is a fact," he said.
"We have a big squad at the moment and I can honestly say there is no one we have actually identified that we want to bring here at the moment.
"We have had a look at quite a few players over the year - as we normally do - but we are not looking to add a lot of players to our squad."
However, speaking ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby, Ferguson believes Manchester City will again be busy in the close season as they look to invest some of the money made available by the club's Middle Eastern owners.
Last summer, City smashed the British transfer records after paying £32.5million for Robinho.
"It is going to be a busy summer for them," he added.
"But it is all about availability. Some clubs don't want to sell their players to anyone, which is admirable.
"It is a difficulty. You could have a check list of players but it is reduced by 50 per cent because clubs don't want to sell.
"Then a lot of clubs, knowing that City have that money there, will be adding noughts onto the value of every player they go for.
"Mark (Hughes) has to try and evaluate the players he wants at his values rather than their values. That is the difficult thing."
