Fergie downplays keeper rift
06 Nov 2009 - 12:17:48
Sir Alex Ferguson has moved swiftly to play down a potential rift between goalkeepers Tomasz Kuszczak and Edwin van der Sar.
Kuszczak accused the veteran Dutch keeper of not helping him progress during an amazing outburst on the club's own in-house television channel this week.
However, Ferguson claims that the Poland international was joking when he told MUTV: "To be honest, I must say this - and Edwin doesn't like this too much for sure - but he doesn't help me too much.
"I have told him a few times already to give me some more advice because he's got more experience and got many more games under his belt."
Ferguson, who celebrated 23 years in the Old Trafford hot-seat on Friday, explained: "Tomasz was cracking a joke. He was laughing when he said it.
"There is no problem between him and Edwin. Maybe it is just that Polish humour doesn't translate to British humour."
Kuszczak, 27, has started just 13 Premier League games for the Red Devils since joining from West Bromwich Albion in 2006.
