Fergie dismisses Tevez talk
15 May 2009 - 10:43:25
Sir Alex Ferguson claims reports that Carlos Tevez could break his contract to remain with Manchester United are 'far-fetched'.
United must strike a deal with Tevez's third-party owners, led by agent Kia Joorabchian, if they are to make his two-year loan stay into a permanent transfer this summer.
The deal requires a settlement fee which is believed to be around £30million which United are believed to be reluctant to pay.
Reports on Friday morning suggested that United could ask the Argentina striker to break his contract with Joorabchian, but Ferguson has distanced the club from such suggestions.
"We could all break our contracts," he said.
"I am not discussing anything like that. It is a bit far-fetched."
Meanwhile, Ferguson claims he is happy to let United chief executive David Gill and Joorabchian resolve the matter.
"There was a meeting with (chief executive) David Gill on Wednesday, that is a clear fact," he continued.
"They discussed the avenue under which Carlos could stay with Manchester United - end of story.
"I realise you (the press) speak to his agent, but I do not wish to discuss the matter any further."
