Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see Dimitar Berbatov get off the mark for the club with two goals in the 3-0 Champions League win at Aalborg BK.
Berbatov, who cost United more than £30million, netted twice against the Danish side to complete a comfortable victory after Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring.
Afterwards, Ferguson said: "It will be a great confidence booster for him.
"As a striker, you always want to get an early goal after being transferred for such a large amount of money.
"He missed a chance quite early, which he was probably a bit frustrated with. But he took his goals well, particularly the second one.
"It was a real striker's finish and he will be happy with that."
However, Ferguson's pleasure was dimmed by injuries to Rafael da Silva, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes, who faces eight weeks out with knee ligament damage.
He added on the club's official website: "There were a lot of plus points, but we lost Paul Scholes who could be out for a few weeks.
"We had one or two other injuries. Young Rafael got injured and Rooney has an ankle problem. He felt a weakness in it when he went to receive a ball and we took him off straightaway.
"So there was maybe a cost to pay for the victory. Nonetheless we have four points now and it's where we want to be."
