Fergie delight at Berba deal
02 Sep 2008 - 11:12:54
Sir Alex Ferguson believes he has secured 'one of the most exciting strikers in the world' after beating the transfer deadline to bring Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United.
Berbatov, 27, finally became a United player on a four-year contract just minutes before Monday's midnight deadline to bring to an end a lengthy pursuit for Ferguson.
United had to beat off interest from neighbours Manchester City and also Real Madrid to land the Bulgaria striker after agreeing to pay Spurs a fee of £30.75million.
The Red Devils also allowed England Under-21 striker Fraizer Campbell to head in the opposite direction on a season-long loan as part of the protracted deal.
"This is a key signing," Ferguson told the club's official website.
"Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.
"His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I am sure he will be a popular player with the fans."
Berbatov was also delighted by the move, saying: "Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me.
"I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come."
