Fergie burned! Blake seals magic night for Burnley against Manchester United

Robbie Blake gave Premier League newcomers Burnley a 1-0victory over Manchester United that left Sir Alex Ferguson champions wondering if life will ever be the same with Cristiano Ronaldo. United had been expected to dismiss a Burnley side back in the top flight for the first time since 1976 but looked hopelessly inadequate in front of goal, just as they had done in their 1-0 victory over Birmingham City on Sunday. Ronaldo's uncanny ability to find the net was highlighted as an out-of-touch Michael Owen squandered a host of chances in front of Fabio Capello. But Ferguson was not concerned about the lack of firepower. He said: 'It's not a concern at this stage when you see the chances we've had. Two or three players had chances. Owen missed one in the first half, Giggs in the second.' Brian Jensen saved a first-half penalty by Michael Carrick as Burnley, priced at 7-1to win, stunned the champions, although Blake will claim the plaudits for his stunning volley. Manager Owen Coyle said: 'It was a terrific goal that was fit to win any game. It was a great night for us. Nobody gave us a chance but we went toe-to-toe with them and created opportunities. 'It is a magnificent three points and we had to work hard as a team. But we created chances.' Burnley face Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool in their next three games and Coyle added: 'We are pleased to get points on the board. Anyone who saw our fixtures thought we wouldn't get a point straight away but that has not been the case.' Ferguson added: 'It was a bad performance. In fairness to them they had a good spell and caused us a lot of problems. Apart from that we were in complete control. 'I think we'd have won the game if we'd scored the penalty. You wonder if it's fate, Burnley back in the Premier League. You can't deny them their victory. 'They worked their socks off, the fans were fantastic. They got behind them all night. It was fantastic for them on their return to the Premier League, playing United. It was a great occasion.'
