Fergie backs Beckham deal
06 Mar 2009 - 14:28:39
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has endorsed David Beckham's decision to prolong his loan stay with AC Milan.
The 33-year-old former United midfielder will remain with the Italian giants until the end of the season before returning to Los Angeles Galaxy.
Beckham will then return to Italy in November at the end of the MLS season for a second stint in Serie A with the aim of prolonging his international career in order to play some part in England's 2010 World Cup campaign.
The ex-England captain met up with Ferguson and some of his former United team-mates during last week's Champions League clash in Milan against Internazionale and the veteran manager believes Beckham has made the right choice.
"It is good for him, there is no question about that because it is the right type of football," said Ferguson.
"I spoke to David when he came for dinner with us in Milan. He was hoping it was going to happen and he wanted it to happen.
"I have no doubt it is the best thing for him."
