Fergie and Vidic land Premier League gongs in Uniteds trophy crusade

Published: 27 May 2009 - 17:41:01

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and defender Nemanja Vidic have been named Barclays manager and player of the year. The awards recognise another outstanding season for the club in winning their third successive Premier League title. It is the ninth time Ferguson has received the honour while Vidic collects his for the first time in his career. The Serbian, 27, was sent off in both matches against title rivals Liverpool but otherwise performed impressively in the United rearguard, not least during a run of 14 consecutive clean sheets. That sequence came amid a 16-game unbeaten run from November to March which propelled Ferguson to his 11th title as United boss.
