Fergie allays Ferdinand fears
25 May 2009 - 12:15:48
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Rio Ferdinand will be fit for Wednesday's Champions League Final encounter with Barcelona.
Ferdinand was expected to play some part in Sunday's final Premier League match at Hull City.
The defender missed the 1-0 win over the Tigers sparking fears that his two-and-a-half week calf injury absence could keep him out of the European showpiece in Rome.
However, Ferguson has allayed fears the Ferdinand will be absent from his team-sheet against Barcelona.
"Rio is coming along fine," he told MUTV. "He trained on Saturday and today with the other players who were also training.
"I think he's on course to play on Wednesday."
Meanwhile, Ferguson also revealed that fellow defenders Rafael Da Silva and the returning Wes Brown both suffered knocks in the 1-0 win at the KC Stadium.
He added: "I took Rafael off and we'll get him checked on Monday, but hopefully he'll be okay.
"Wes got a little knock, but given that it was his first game back after so long out we're thankful he's come through well overall."
