FA ask for Fergie explanation
05 Oct 2009 - 18:04:32
The Football Association has written to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson asking him to explain his critical comments concerning referee Alan Wiley.
Ferguson was highly critical of the fitness of Wiley, who took charge of the 2-2 Old Trafford draw with Sunderland on Saturday.
"He was not fit enough for a game of that standard," fumed Ferguson, who also became embroiled in several heated discussions with fourth official Mike Dean.
"The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit - he was not fit. It is an indictment of our game.
"You see referees abroad who are as fit as butchers' dogs. We have some who are fit. He wasn't fit.
"He was taking 30 seconds to book a player."
Meanwhile, Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has escaped any FA action after slamming Peter Walton for failing to award Rovers a penalty during his side's 6-2 thrashing at Arsenal on the same day.
