Experience key for Ferguson
18 Apr 2010 - 10:44:21
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his trio of veteran stars for their role in the last-gasp 1-0 win against deadly rivals Manchester City.
A Paul Scholes header deep into injury time secured a vital three points that keeps United's Premier League title challenge on track.
Ferguson, who believed their title aspirations would be over if they failed to grab the win, paid tribute to Scholes, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs for their role in the triumph, as the win has heaped the pressure on Chelsea, who lost at Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to reporters, Ferguson said: "It would have been very, very difficult if we had not won.
"I think we deserved to win the match, no question, but I couldn't see a goal coming.
"I decided to put Scholes a bit further forward and it paid off. He was man of the match today, he was wonderful, he's such a skilful player.
"The experience in these games is definitely important and can be vital in helping other players as well as their own contribution."
