Evra fails to reduce France ban

    09 Sep 2010 - 17:35:06

Manchester United's France defender Patrice Evra has lost his appeal against a five-match international ban.

Evra had appealed the punishment handed down by the French Football Federation following his role in the World Cup debacle in South Africa during the summer.

The full-back was captain of a squad that went on strike midway through the tournament prior to their failure to qualify from the group stage.

Raymond Domenech presided over an unhappy squad which refused to train after striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home following a half-time argument with the coach.

Evra attended the hearing in person but failed to persuade the federation to reduce his suspension.

He has already sat out two international games but will now be in line for an international recall until next year.

"The Appeals High Commission, which met today to consider the appeal by the player Patrice Evra, has decided to confirm the five-match sanction for non-selection by Team France," read a statement on the federation website.
