    Evans agrees new United deal

    07 May 2010 - 10:38:51

Manchester United have handed a new four-year contract to defender Jonny Evans.

The Northern Ireland international has proved an able deputy for the first-choice central defensive partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic during an injury-plagued season at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has now been rewarded with a new deal after making a career-high 28 appearances this season.

"Jonny has signed a new deal," confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson. "We have been working on it for a few months now and I am happy that he has signed it.

"Jonny has played a lot of football this year. For a centre-half at 22 years of age to play so many games and show the quality he has, is tremendous."

Evans made his first-team debut in 2007 and has won 19 international caps for Northern Ireland.
