Edwin never wants to leave
01 Feb 2008 - 10:17:41
Goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar believes he will finish his career at Manchester United.
The 37-year-old Netherlands international recently put pen to paper on a fresh one-year contract meaning he will remain at Old Trafford until summer 2009.
Van der Sar remains first choice for the Red Devils despite recent injury problems and the veteran former Ajax and Juventus keeper doesn't envisage leaving to join another club.
He has made almost 125 appearances since joining Sir Alex Ferguson's side on a free transfer from Fulham in 2005.
"It is getting more and more likely I will never play with another team," he admitted.
"When I left Ajax I told the supporters I wanted to finish my career there and that was the plan for a long time.
"But at 34 I got a chance to play at Old Trafford and here I am competing for big trophies and part of a fantastic team. That is not something you give away easily.
"I feel fine. I had small groin strain over Christmas but I've recovered from that and I am ready for the last four months of the season."
Meanwhile, Ferguson has praised his defence for their recent impressive form which has helped the champions return to the top of the Premier League table.
The Red Devils have conceded just 11 goals in 24 league games this season.
"I must put in a complimentary word for our defence, which is doing even better than last season," said the Scot.
"Our title success then was based on a solid foundation at the back with just 27 goals conceded in the Premier League.
"We are well into the second half of the current season and we are well on track.
"There is a good understanding of the importance of the defensive part of our game right through the team."
