    Edwin: United must improve

    09 Apr 2009 - 12:16:23

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has admitted Manchester United need to 'sort out' their recent defensive problems if they are to bounce back and win silverware this season.

The Dutch keeper has had to pick the ball out of his net ten times in United's last four games.

Premier League defeats to Liverpool and Fulham plus a 2-2 Champions League quarter-final first leg draw with FC Porto has led to questions about United's form at a pivotal moment in the season.

But van der Sar is confident the Red Devils will return to top form - starting with Saturday's trip to Sunderland - when they iron out their recent defensive difficulties.

"It's not that the goals we are conceding are great goals from our opponents," he told MUTV.

"Of course, we have to sort that out and start focusing on what we did very successfully for a long time this season.

"We need to get back to that way of defending and then we should be okay.

"We had a hard game on Sunday and again on Tuesday.

"We need to make sure we focus again for Saturday against Sunderland."
