Diouf ready for derby call

MAME Diouf has played his way into Carling Cup semi-final derby reckoning. United have got concerns over Dimitar Berbatov again and the Senegalese newcomer could benefit against City at Eastlands on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old £2m buy from Molde that could rise to £5m, scored on his Old Trafford debut against Burnley on Saturday. The exciting hitman is set to be among the Reds' 18 on duty in the first leg. Berbatov has been troubled by a knee problem for over two months and has battled on preferring not to have an exploratory operation. He played on again on Saturday despite being offered the chance to quit at half-time when he felt the knee again. The Bulgarian scored in United's 3-0 win but, along with Wayne Rooney, made way for Diouf and Michael Owen after 74 minutes. Sir Alex Ferguson says his £30.75m hitman will be assessed again today to decide if surgery is the only option. But it leaves the door ajar for Diouf who was happy with his Old Trafford debut. "It felt good. I played and scored and the team won, which is the most important thing. I am happy for the team and myself," said Mame. "For the first two or three minutes I was very nervous. But after that you are only thinking about football. When you are on the pitch, you forget about all the other people and just do your job. "I don't know whether I will play more games. I am not the one who is deciding. I have to be ready for my next chance. "I have settled in well. Everyone has been so nice to me. I have not had any problems. It has been fantastic. "I can learn from Owen, Berbatov and Rooney." Fergie added: "It was very good for Diouf. He has great spring. He is quick and has a lot of good attributes." What are your first impressions of Diouf? Have your say.
