Derby day joy for Evra

Published: 21 Sep 2009 - 09:42:16

Patrice Evra has hailed the Manchester derby as one of the most entertaining games in world football. The Manchester United full-back was speaking in the wake of the Red Devils' epic 4-3 victory over local rivals Manchester City on Sunday. High profile contests of this nature can occasionally fail to live up to their pre-match billing, with additional pressure placed on the players stifling the entertainment value. That was certainly not the case at the weekend, as Old Trafford witnessed an enthralling contest between two old adversaries. Evra, who endured a difficult debut against City when he first arrived in England back in January 2006, admits he feels honoured to have been involved in such a game. The Frenchman believes United were worthy winners on the day and insists Sir Alex Ferguson's men now have table-topping Chelsea in their sights. "It is one of the best derby games in the world," Evra told skysports.com. "I remember that I had a difficult debut in this country against them, but today we showed that we are still the best in the city. "They are a good side and I can see them making the top four, and they were missing two great players in (Emmanuel) Adebayor and Robinho, so let's see what happens. "To be honest, it was our mistakes which made the game interesting. We should have won by a bigger margin, not in injury time. "Everything is good. Chelsea are now the only side unbeaten, but we haven't met them yet."
