Defoe on a mission to cancel out Wembley woe as Spurs face Man United
Published: 01 Dec 2009 - 09:41:10
Up for the cup: Hot-shot Defoe Jermain Defoe is desperate to fire Tottenham closer to Wembley and erase the memories of his cup final disappointments. Defoe is set to start for Spurs against Manchester United in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup and the striker has more reason than most for wanting to get his hands on the trophy. The England international missed Spurs' Wembley win over Chelsea in 2008 after leaving White Hart Lane for Portsmouth. He was then cup-tied for Pompey's FA Cup triumph over Cardiff at the national stadium a few months later and was ineligible when Spurs played United in last season's final after returning to the capital in January. Defoe said: 'Hopefully, this time I'll be ready. It was a disappointment to miss those finals but for some reason I think this is my year. 'Maybe it was the way I worked in pre-season. When I was on holiday I couldn't wait to get back and work. 'It's a World Cup year and you don't want to miss out again, so I did everything right.'
