David Moyes to be new Manchester United manager: official
Everton football club have confirmed in a statement this afternoon that David Moyes will leave Goodison for Old Trafford.
As widely predicted, Moyes’ 11-year stay at Everton has come to an end as the lure of Manchester United proved too great.
Moyes met with owner Bill Kenwright last night to request permission to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, and an agreement for his departure has been ratified.
An Everton club statement said “The manager met chairman Bill Kenwright yesterday evening and confirmed his desire to join Manchester United.”
“The Chairman, on behalf of the Club, would like to place on record his thanks to David for the massive contribution he has made to Everton since his arrival in March 2002. He has been an outstanding Manager.
“During his tenure at Goodison Park, David has taken charge of the team on over 500 occasions including four European campaigns.
“His final two games as Everton Manager will be the remaining Premier League matches against West Ham United and Chelsea.
“Everton officials will start the search for a replacement manager immediately.”
Confirmation of Moyes’ appointment as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement and a United statement is expected shortly.
